On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

Hello, my name is Rainbacon, and I'd love to be the next moderator on IPS because I love this community. I've answered the community questionnaire and I am happy to answer any other questions you have either here or in chat.

Why me?

  • I care deeply about this community and want to see it be successful
  • I like to think that I'm fairly good at helping users polish their questions
  • I know that my interpersonal skills aren't perfect (that's why I'm here) and I welcome feedback from anyone who feels that my interactions could use some improvement
    • I promise that I will listen to any and all constructive feedback that you have
  • I am on the US East Coast timezone, so I'll be able to provide coverage for times when EmC is often modding alone.

Why not me?

  • I'm getting married in a month, so I probably won't be as active for the first month or so after the election

Greetings, my name is ElizB and I'd like to nominate myself for the 2019 IPS election. I was uncertain to put myself in this position because I felt there were people more experienced than myself, but I still felt I wanted to do what I could for this wonderful community I have found a family in. I am from north-east United States. I am also a co-room owner in the chat.

My personal view on moderation is that it is a huge responsibility to represent the community. I promise to try my best and work together with the community and the other moderators to come to a fair decision.

I have answered the community questionnaire.

Why not me?

  • I am not as experienced, as shown by my reputation score
  • I know I have not contributed to Meta as much in the past. I promise I will contribute more, regardless of becoming a moderator.

Why me?

  • I can relate to and understand people that are experiencing oppression and difficulties, because I am Deaf in real life. I want to help make this community more open and accessible for all visitors and members.
  • I prefer having open and transparent communication

Hello, IPS

I have been here since the start, working to help build the community along with a great team of active users. I have raised probably the most number of helpful flags, become an all time top reviewer, top editor, frequent voter, earned a lot of badges, and I've been an active presence on the IPS meta site for a very long time.

Overall, I have been using stack exchange without signing up for many years, and then signed up and started actively posting on the network starting with ELU 6 years ago, mastered the review queues, and frequented meta discussions.

As a mod, I'll be able to better help moderate the community with the special moderator tools I'll be provided. And I hope that I am considered as a suitable candidate to join the IPS moderation team.

Regards

NVZ

Here's my answer to the questionnaire

Hello, I'm Ælis and I volunteer myself to become an official IPS moderator. Here is my answer to the community questionnaire.

Why me?

  • Because I love this site, because I spend a lot of my free time in it and because I want it to become the best possible version of itself it could be.
  • Because I'm already doing a lot of moderation as a community mod and because I believe I'm doing a great job at it.
  • Because I believe I could do even more as an official mod with more tools and powers.

Why not me?

  • If you don't like the moderating style I'm currently using, you probably won't like me as an official moderator.

  • If you believe someone else would do an even greater job as an official moderator, you should vote for them and not for me.

Questionnaire answers

Hi there! I'm avazula, and I'd like to nominate myself for IPS' 2019 moderator election.

Why me?

  • Building an inclusive community is very important to me. I try to be as welcoming and helpful to new users as possible.

  • My activity on IPS is steady and diverse, be it about reviewing queues, flagging, contributing to meta whenever I can, fine-tuning IPS comment bot or writing answers implying non-violent communication.

  • Having been around for almost two years, I have seen the site evolve and understand the need to always question my actions and thinking

Why not me?

  • English is not my mother tongue and there may be idioms that I struggle to get sometimes.

Outside of SE I'm a DevOps engineer in the healthcare industry; I'm also a singer, a beekeeper and a Medium writer.

This election is over.
