My partner talks to me a lot (about their day, work etc.). We have been together 10 years but I don't like to talk much. How can I stop them talking to me?

More info: we used to talk more at beginning but now I am bored of same conversation all the time.

Is this a recent thing? If it's been happening for 10 years without complaint, he/she is not likely to think you're bothered by it. – user8671 Jun 12 '18 at 9:15

Do you want them to completely stop talking, and only talk to you when you ask a question? Or should they just talk less? And did you already try something? – JeroendeK Jun 12 '18 at 9:19

That's extremely rude. Do you have difficulties talking with people in general or is this specific to your relationship? I'm confused because you give "being bored" as your main reason, but then you say you are not "into" even the most basic conversations – Raditz_35 Jun 12 '18 at 9:36

@Cloud Yes I can image why she thinks that is rude. Did you then elaborate on why you want her to stop talking? Or did you provide alternatives/solutions, like "I would prefer if you don't talk to me while I'm doing X.(e.g. reading or something)? – JeroendeK Jun 12 '18 at 9:36

@Cloud I'm still unclear what your final goal is. That your partner simply never speaks to you? Or you two only talk when you initiate the talking? – JeroendeK Jun 12 '18 at 9:51

I don't think the solution here is to make your partner stop talking, because from my point of view, if you want him/her to stop talking, just stop, stop everything not just talking.

The alternative correct solution would be trying to talk about somethings else doesn't sound boring, something new, new experiences.
And if you have nothing new to talk about, so this is another problem, and the solution is to go and do something new right now, do something new by yourself to be happy to start talking about, do something new with her/him.

Another solution is sharing some activities, sport, reading, video games, watching movies (I used to go to cinema weekly for example).

One more solution is asking for her/his opinion on certain subjects which you find not boring.

I am sure there are too many other solution rather than just STOP
