I am at a point in my career where I'm looking for new opportunities and am thinking of switching streams to research. Most such opportunities require you to have references from past mentors/teachers.

I haven't spoken to any of them for several years now.

How can I go about asking them to provide a reference for a role?

Hey Vigneswara, welcome to IPS :) Are there things you've already considered doing but that you think won't work? What would be the standard way of doing such a thing, and what makes your situation not suitable for a standard approach? Questions should include that information as research effort, and to avoid getting answers that tell you to do things that you think/know won't work. A location tag may also be helpful in giving an idea of the culture answers should deal with. – Tinkeringbell Jun 13 at 18:29
