Feb 21, 2018 at 17:09 comment added AndreiROM @adamdavis - there is somewhat of an under-current on SE sites of down-voting answers which don't specifically answer the OP's stated question. Also, sometimes the OP may have stated "I've considered not doing X, but I've decided that I want to, so please tell me how to proceed". And in that case answering "Don't do X" will typically not go over well. I've still written such answers every once in a while, when I've felt that the other side of the issue should be discussed, but understanding that I'll get some push-back from the community. Otherwise, answers like this are fine.
Feb 21, 2018 at 16:57 comment added Adam Davis @AndreiROM Thanks for answering. I've had a few people complain about these types of answers when I've provided them. I figured someone like you with a good bit or reputation would have some insight as to whether these answers are allowed by the community, which would suggest bullying towards me. There have since been many questions I've passed on answering because I thought the site was more strict than that. I now understand better.
Feb 21, 2018 at 16:49 comment added AndreiROM @AdamDavis - Are you asking me, or the world at large (in which case you should be posting on meta)? Allow me to ask you: why wouldn't they be? The OP is asking us how to proceed with a certain course of action. Council to the effect that proceeding is a bad idea may, in fact, constitute great advice. It may be that the OP chooses to ignore that answer, and selects another one, but different approaches to a situation should be tabled for consideration.
Feb 21, 2018 at 16:40 comment added Adam Davis This does not answer the question as stated: "How do I open a discussion about this topic without making my current girlfriend insecure about our relationship?" Are such responses allowed on this site?

Use "e.g." instead of "Ex:" as an abbreviation for "example", because the question involves a lot of competition with/fixation on an ex-girlfriend, and using the same word for "former girlfriend" and "example" seems probably accidental (and distracting)

Feb 20, 2018 at 20:57 comment added Crazy Cucumber @DonQuiKong THANK YOU! I just realized that the "ex" was short for "Example" and not "Ex-girlfriend".
Feb 20, 2018 at 20:56 comment added DonQuiKong I disagree with telling your partner about this. It will hurt her and I don't see any benefit. Some things one needs to figure out alone.
Feb 20, 2018 at 20:54 comment added DonQuiKong Did you have to start the examples with ex? I thought those were the ex's accomplishments first and was wondering what you're talking about ;)
Feb 20, 2018 at 20:02 comment added BradC @JuanCarlosOropeza Its an idiomatic phrase that means "no matter what", or "even if it is difficult, I will still (whatever)".
