Aug 4, 2017 at 9:38 | comment | added | Jeroen Mostert | Not responding with sarcasm is good -- but it's all in the tone of voice. Responding with a smile and "no, there are several ninjas in the room, but they're keeping quiet because they think I haven't spotted them" might get a laugh and possibly even improve the mood of the asker. Don't do this unless you know this informal approach will go over well, though -- it depends on who's asking, their tone, and whether you can crack jokes well. If the CEO barges in and asks "you're the only one here?" in an annoyed tone, the only proper answer is a neutral "yes, I haven't seen anyone else (yet)".

Aug 3, 2017 at 16:57 | comment | added | stannius | I used to respond "No, I had them all cut!" though that's not accurate either.

Aug 3, 2017 at 13:44 | comment | added | Michael Richardson | Depending on your relationship with the asker, you could go with Bill Engvall's "Here's your sign".
Aug 3, 2017 at 12:22 | comment | added | OldPadawan | OK, thanks. Depends on people you're talking to though. For the haircut, I usually answer my friends "no, my hair just fell down on its own...", or "No, NVZ isn't watching TV, the TV is watching NVZ ! [/chuck norris mode]" ^^
Aug 3, 2017 at 12:06 | comment | added | NVZ | @OldPadawan Duh! It's rude to say "duh" to certain people. Say it only to your peers who would take it lightly. :)

Aug 3, 2017 at 11:17 | comment | added | danidemi | @NVZ I really think the "haircut" things happen to everyone. When it happens with friends I always come up with "no, what are you talking about? I didn't had any... oh wait wait! Someone cut my hair during the night and I didn't noticed ? How it is possible!"
Aug 3, 2017 at 11:17 | comment | added | OldPadawan | I didn't know "duh", so I googled it, and it says, roughly "Thanks, cap'tain obvious", meaning also that statement/person is "stupid". Is that right ? In the sense you mean to use it ? Is it considered rude or not ?
