Nov 1, 2017 at 16:27 | comment | added | Jesse | "Enlisting help from a mutual friend" I meant it as convincing a friend to do something we are both invited to again and bumping into her at work was a joke. The goal was always to meet up and spend time with them. I will edit the enlisting comment to show this more clearly
Nov 1, 2017 at 16:20 | comment | added | ymbirtt | @Jesse, If your mentality is "I would be happy to catch up whether it is a date or not", then I can't see any way that this could go wrong. Phrases from your question involving persuading friends to set you up, or engineering situations in which you "accidentally" bump into them, kind of gave me a different impression.
Nov 1, 2017 at 16:17 | comment | added | Jesse | Also, the comment about LTR is taken out of context. By saying "But lets just start with meeting up for now." I was attempting to indicate exactly as you suggested. That although in the broader sense a LTR is something I want, I must be honest with myself and it is not something I expect or want from from just reaching out to this person again.
Nov 1, 2017 at 16:09 | comment | added | Jesse | Your anecdote is very relevant and useful! However the example message followed the same structure and purpose of my original proposition the only real difference being I gave the context of eating food and watching a movie. I suppose this could be interpreted as a date but ultimately leaves the distinction up to her. Since I would be happy to catch up whether it is a date or not is the potential implication really such a problem as your (and the other) answer seems to suggest.
